CHROMA was born in 2020 in Stockholm, as part of an installation created for the exhibition 101 Fahrenheit.
CHROMA is a collection of vertical blinds conceived by Maria Vaiedelich, who reclaims this mobile device to play with light and color like a contemporary stained glass. Made of transparent colored filters, Maria’s blinds do not block light — on the contrary, they illuminate. Placed in front of a window or suspended in space, they intercept light rays to cast chromatic reflections on the floor and walls. Depending on their orientation — open, closed, or partially open — the vertical slats slice the light and break down geometric shapes that Maria draws, cuts, and sews by hand. At once color screens and kinetic paintings, these blinds are original works that blur the line between art and design. Conceived as one-of-a-kind pieces or larger-scale installations, the concept can be adapted to fit the specific context and project.
